If you're about to propose, searching for the perfect wedding band, or simply ready to invest in a piece of fine jewellery that will last a lifetime, there's one address in London you need to know: Hatton Garden, EC1N.
And we're not just saying that because it's home. We're saying it because after more than four decades of crafting bespoke jewellery on the most celebrated jewellery street in the UK, we've seen first-hand why nowhere else compares.
Hatton Garden is London's diamond district. A cobbled stretch of specialist jewellers, master craftspeople and diamond dealers that has been at the heart of Britain's jewellery trade for over 500 years. With more specialist retailers per square metre than anywhere else in Europe, it's the one place where genuine expertise, real competition on price, and an unmatched range of stones and settings exist within a short walk of each other.
Hari, founder of Harmony Jewels, has been part of this community for over a decade and he has no intention of leaving.
"I ended up in Hatton Garden because this is the jewellery hub for the United Kingdom," he says. "Everything to do with jewellery is here. Diamonds, gemstones, craftspeople. I came with very little knowledge, and now I have quite a lot. And I will be here until the end of my career and my children will take over."
This is the question every first-time visitor should ask and Hari's answer is characteristically direct.
"At Harmony, you'll get luxury service better than Bond Street. The same quality, for half the price. You can't get this experience online, and high street jewellers simply don't have the know-how to provide what we provide."
That know-how runs deep. At Harmony Jewels, every ring is designed and handcrafted in London; not manufactured in a factory overseas, as is the case with the majority of rings sold in the UK today.
"The biggest mistake I see customers make is not checking craftsmanship," says Hari. "They compare prices without understanding how the actual making works. At Harmony, we make our rings by hand in London, in our own workshop. That makes an enormous difference to the finished piece."
A great engagement ring doesn't start with a diamond. It starts with a conversation and at Harmony Jewels, that conversation has no time limit.
"Our approach is to start from zero," explains Hari. "Some customers arrive with a clear idea of what they want. Many don't. Either way, we start from the beginning; we break the ring apart, explore what design might suit them, find the right diamond size for the centre stone. Consultations take about an hour, but we've had customers come back two or three times before they're fully decided. And that's completely fine. Our approach is no pressure. We let the customer be fully happy — and once they're fully happy, they decide to go ahead themselves."
Once you've found your direction, our team handles everything: stone sourcing from trusted suppliers we work with across the world, CAD design, 3D wax modelling so you can hold your ring before it exists, and finally, handcrafted production in our London workshop with full transparency on timelines and pricing from day one.
Standard production is 3 to 6 weeks. Need something sooner? Get in touch; we'll do everything we can to make it happen. We understand that love doesn't always work to a schedule.
Behind every ring is a process most customers never see — and it's one Hari is quietly proud of.
"The UK doesn't manufacture diamonds. Most are cut in India, and from there they travel to places like Israel, the USA, Hong Kong, Mumbai. We buy all of our diamonds using our team abroad — first through video quality control, then in person. Only if a diamond passes both stages does it get shipped to us."
That rigorous sourcing process means every stone that arrives at Harmony Jewels has already been scrutinised twice before it reaches your finger. And every significant stone comes with independent certification — GIA, IGI or HRD — not the in-house certificates that some larger brands rely on.
This is the question we're asked more than any other right now and the honest answer is: there is no wrong choice. Only an uninformed one.
Both are real diamonds. Chemically, physically, optically identical. What differs is origin, and what that means to you personally.
Lab-grown diamonds offer extraordinary value. You can typically get a significantly larger, higher-quality stone for the same budget as a smaller natural diamond and for many couples thinking carefully about sustainability, that matters enormously.
Natural diamonds carry something that can't be manufactured: geological time. Each one formed over billions of years, under conditions that will never be replicated. For some clients, that story is inseparable from what the ring means.
At Harmony Jewels, we'll never push you either way. Come in, hold both, and see which feels right. You'll know.
"If you want the best possible experience, come on a weekday," advises Hari. "Monday to Friday, ideally in the morning. It's quieter, we have more time with you, and we have full access to our suppliers in case you want to see something that isn't readily available in the showroom. Saturdays are very busy by nature — the store is packed and it's a more hectic experience. We do offer late appointments too, so there are options even if you can't make it during the day."
With over 90 jewellery shops in Hatton Garden, it can feel overwhelming when you first arrive. Here's what sets us apart:
"We're not really like a seller," says Hari. "We're more like a consultant. We'll help you figure out what's best for you; for your lifestyle, your wants, your needs. We want the customer to have a great experience at this lovely time in their lives."
How much should I spend on an engagement ring in Hatton Garden? There's no rule — and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. At Harmony Jewels, we work with every budget. What matters is that you understand exactly what you're getting for your money. We'll show you how to maximise quality within your budget, whether that's through stone choice, cut, or exploring lab-grown options that give you significantly more diamond for your pound.
Is it cheaper to buy in Hatton Garden than on the high street? Almost always, yes. Hatton Garden operates as a trade district with genuine competition between specialists — prices are typically far more competitive than branded high street retailers, without any compromise on quality. At Harmony Jewels, we're fully transparent on pricing from your very first conversation.
What's the difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds? Chemically and physically, they are identical: both are real diamonds. Lab-grown stones are created in controlled environments rather than mined from the earth, making them more affordable and with a lower environmental impact. We offer both and will help you understand which is right for you, with zero pressure either way.
Do I need an appointment to visit Harmony Jewels? You're always welcome to walk in; we're open 7 days a week. That said, booking a consultation means you'll have one of our experts all to yourself, with the time and space to explore every option without rushing. For weekend visits especially, we recommend booking ahead.
How long does a bespoke engagement ring take to make? Standard production is 3 to 6 weeks from the moment your design is confirmed. If your timeline is tighter, get in touch — we'll always do our best to make it work for you.
What diamond certification should I look for? Always insist on independent certification from a recognised grading lab. We work with GIA, IGI and HRD — the most trusted names in the industry. Be cautious of retailers who offer only their own in-house certificates.
Can I redesign or remodel an existing piece of jewellery? Absolutely — and some of our most meaningful work starts this way. Whether you have an inherited stone, a ring that no longer suits your style, or loose diamonds you'd like to give new life to, we can transform it into something you'll wear every single day.
